Ok, so if you look on our team calendar, we have a virtual scrum class coming up. The idea is to run a small, simple scrum project online over the course of a week to a) learn scrum in a casual fun way b) reinforce what people learn in their scrum training c) make the world a better place.
I'm happy to announce that I have a candidate project for the scrumulation... Is anyone interested in doing this as part of the scrumulation? Rina's Ride Ride 3133 is a virtual horseback ride across the country, covering 3133 miles from Myles Standish State Forest in Plymouth, Mass. to Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. She will begin with a 10-mile ride in Myles Standish State Forest. We will trailer her and her pony further down the route for occasional "real" rides as far as that is practical, and then using a special horse pedometer, she will log the miles that she will ride, charting those miles on a map. It will take her approximately 2 years to ride 3,133 miles. We are looking to promote this not only in the horse community, but also to the general public and collect sponsors for her efforts, similar to a walk-a-thon, but on a bit grander scale. In addition to her own rides, she will also contact local chapters of Pony Club across the country (especially those along her course) and seek to have them organize local fundraising rides for Ride 3133. We will create a web site and blog for her to talk not only about her rides and riding, but about global warming issues, about her beneficiary, about the geography and cultures she will virtually come across, etc. 1. map of ride with mileage done and to go 2. donation facility (paypal? other donation widget?) 3. Rina?s blog, to include text, pictures, video a. Kickoff 4. bracelet orders (Rina wants to make hemp macrame bracelets with "Ride3133" in beads to sell to raise additional funds) 5. Ride along with Rina a. Contact and "Ridealong Kit" b. Blog and photos 6. Beneficiary information and links |

Another good group came to light randomly yesterday. I was actually a student of this program oh so many years ago so they are near and dear to my heart... Plus they do a lot of cool projects. Fred is the guy that runs the program... It takes a lot to run a vocational program for inner city kids and they aren't always appreciative. Gil Kenan was also a student back in the day... He was nominated for an Academy Award last year for Monster House and is now producing a movie with Tom Hanks... so there's two success stories for you to show that the proof is in the pudding.
The challenge with this group is that their needs are not well-defined yet... and they have a lot of needs, mostly organizational. This is a much more challenging group with a very clear value proposition so it makes for a more interesting project plus they have a lot of needs so if we did one need per Scrumulation we'd always be working with the same business case and really help out people who help people. Also, I'm pretty passionate about helping them out so I'd definitely keep running Scrumulations and hawk this group to find people to help out... thus making us more viral and helping to grow our community. However, I'm worried that it might be too hard for our first Scrumulation.... But I leave that up to you guys... InnerCity Filmmakers http://innercityfilmm... Inner-City Filmmakers was developed in 1992 during the Los Angeles civil unrest. Since 1993 ICF has been guided by its founding goal of providing free year-round professional, technical and business skills training and paid work opportunities to low-income inner city students where they can gain knowledge, perfect skills and develop their potential to the fullest extent. Founded by working professionals Fred Heinrich, Film Editor and USC School of Cinema/Television graduate, and Stephania Lipner, Producer, Inner-City Filmmakers selects graduating seniors from high schools and social service agencies throughout Southern California. These diverse inner city students are bright, creative, resilient, hardworking, dependable and financially needy. Many individuals volunteer their time and services. ICF student body demographics are 52% Hispanic American, 24% African American, 8% Caucasian, 5% Asian American, 5% Middle Eastern, and 6% other. 30% of all students are female. The average family income is $17,000. Average family size is six members. Inner-City Filmmakers is the only free broad-based professional filmmaking program of its kind in the country. ICF has successfully trained and placed over 50% of its graduates in paying entry-level jobs at film studios and production companies. Employers and supervisors have praised the students? dedication, which has resulted in advanced career opportunities and memberships in the Motion Picture Editors Guild, International Cinematographers Guild and the Studio Electrical Lighting Technicians. Over 72% of ICF graduates have continued on to higher education often with scholarships to NYU, UCLA, UCSB, USC, and UC Berkeley, while continuing to be involved with the ICF Program.
